Limelight

Make your mouse easier to see for students on a Mac

A small arrow cursor is hard for students to spot on a shared screen. Limelight wraps your pointer in a soft glow so it stands out and is easy to follow.

On a projected or shared screen, the default Mac cursor is tiny and blends into slides, code, and websites. Students lose it constantly and your pacing suffers while they search for it.

Limelight is a macOS menu-bar overlay. Press ⌃⌥1 to add a glowing spotlight that follows your cursor, making it far easier to track. To be clear, Limelight does not enlarge the cursor itself or change the system pointer size — it adds a highlight around it. If you also want a larger pointer, macOS has a separate cursor-size setting in System Settings; Limelight's job is the spotlight glow that draws attention to where you are.

Turn the spotlight on with ⌃⌥1 before class. It works on top of any app and any meeting or recording tool, so students following live or watching a recording both benefit.

FAQ

Does Limelight make the cursor bigger?

Will it slow down my Mac during class?
Limelight is a lightweight, Apple-notarized overlay built for macOS 14 and later, so it runs quietly on top of your other apps.
