What is Cursor Size?

Cursor size is how large the on-screen pointer appears. macOS lets you enlarge the system cursor in Accessibility settings to make it easier to find and follow.

Cursor size refers to the pixel dimensions of the pointer drawn on screen. By default the macOS pointer is fairly small, which keeps it out of the way but can make it hard to spot on a large or high-resolution display.

macOS includes a built-in control for this under System Settings, Accessibility, Display, where a Pointer size slider scales the cursor from normal up to much larger. This changes the actual system cursor everywhere, so it stays enlarged in every app until you move the slider back.

Limelight takes a different approach. It is a macOS menu-bar app, and it does not change your system cursor size at all. Instead it draws a glowing spotlight around the pointer that follows it as it moves, which makes the pointer easy to track during recordings and presentations while the cursor itself stays its normal size.

Why Limelight

  • Cursor size is the on-screen scale of the pointer
  • macOS enlarges the system cursor via Accessibility, Display, Pointer size
  • Enlarging the system cursor changes it in every app at once
  • Limelight does not resize the cursor; it adds a spotlight around it

Open System Settings, Accessibility, Display, and drag the Pointer size slider. This enlarges the system cursor across all apps.
Does Limelight change the cursor size?
No. Limelight leaves the system cursor at its normal size and instead adds a glowing spotlight that follows it, making the pointer easy to follow.
