What Is Cursor Enhancement?

Cursor enhancement encompasses every method a screen recorder uses to make the mouse pointer more useful to viewers beyond its default appearance. At the basic level, this means making the cursor easier to see: using a glow, shadow, color overlay, or size increase to distinguish it from screen content. At a more sophisticated level, cursor enhancement includes processing the cursor's motion path to remove jitter and produce smooth, intentional-looking movement; animating the cursor on click events to signal interactions; and coupling cursor position to auto-zoom to bring the relevant screen region into frame.

The rationale for cursor enhancement is grounded in the difference between the presenter's experience and the viewer's. A presenter controls the cursor and always knows where it is. A viewer must visually search for a small icon against constantly changing content, often while simultaneously trying to read text, parse UI elements, and follow narration. Cursor enhancement shifts cognitive load from the viewer to the software: the software does the work of making the cursor findable, so the viewer can direct full attention to understanding the content.
